Changing active behaviours of Asian female teenagers by providing them with the opportunity to assert their opinion and influence local physical activity offers.
As part of Active Lancashires focus to engage more females from low-socio economic backgrounds, they identified One Voice as an ideal partner due to their location in Blackburn and their established female focused group, known as West End Girls (WEGS). Despite One Voice offering the WEGS a varied menu of engagement opportunities, this did not include regular access to sport and physical activity.
Active Lancashire arranged a focus group in November 2017 to consult the WEGS group. Using a mix of interview questions and surveys, individuals confidentially expressed their needs, motivations, barriers and preferences around being active. Directly influenced by the WEGS insight, Active Lancashire and One Voice worked collaboratively to initiate 2 new Satellite Clubs offers; one incorporating Clubbercise and Boxing, the second working in partnership with Lancashire Cricket Foundation to develop the ECB’s Softball Cricket initiative.
