The Nottinghamshire Leadership Academy Network (NLAN) is a collective of Leadership Academies, which specialise in developing the sports leadership skills of young volunteers, aged 14-19. They operate across 8 local authority areas in Nottinghamshire.
Sport Nottinghamshire works with colleges, schools, event organisers and clubs to coordinate and deliver the four-tiered NLAN. Each stage provides a positive and progressive pathway for young volunteers and Sport Nottinghamshire coordinates the County Leadership Academy. Platinum Leaders are the pinnacles of the NLAN and offer young people who have progressed through the programme an opportunity to become ‘champions of youth sport’ in the county.
Impact
Sport Nottinghamshire strive to make the Level 3 School Games 'an event for young people by young people’ and this year, 80% of the sports were officiated by NLAN volunteers. Over 200 young volunteers have accessed training and volunteering opportunities. Furthermore, in February Sport Nottinghamshire ran the ‘Notts Step into Sport’ conference aimed at increasing the sports leadership provision for young disabled people, and to increase awareness of disability sport.
