In October 2017 Sport England announced changes to the direction of Satellite Clubs nationally. We decided this was the time for Active Lancashire to implement some significant changes, so we embarked on establishing informal and local opportunities for young people to improve their physical and mental wellbeing.
Our Insight led approach helps create local offers that are centered around the needs and interests of young people, empowers them with decision making responsibility and provides a platform to develop new skills by performing various roles. In Lancashire, our Satellite Clubs are targeted at young people from low socio-economic backgrounds, females, LGBT+ and support young people improve their mental health. More recently we have been working with a range of community based partners to tackle anti-social behaviour, knife crime and violence utilising Satellite Clubs to establish social engagement outlets.
Alternative activities have enabled us to engage new audiences using innovative offers such as Parkour, K POP, Glow/UV activity and offers which break from cultural stereotypes, such as Self-Defence, Zumba and Clubbercise for teenagers from South Asian backgrounds.
This film highlights how our Satellite Clubs across Lancashire are customer centric, reduce inequalities, enrich the diversity of community engagement and embed active lifestyles by making physical activity memorable and most importantly.......FUN!
