Active Cheshire gain accolade of ‘Best Employer’ in the 2015 Best of the Best Business Awards

Active Cheshire has gained the accolade of ‘Best Employer’ in the 2015 Best of the Best Business Awards.

The Best of the Best Business Awards honour the outstanding achievements of dynamic local businesses and entrepreneurs across each county of the United Kingdom. The winners all have one thing in common – they are truly excellent at what they do and Active Cheshire have proved this by winning a Best of the Best Business Award.  A panel of independent expert judges select winners according to strict criteria for each category.

Commenting on the award to Active Cheshire, in the Best Employer category, the Chairman of the Judges said: “We were impressed to see how much Active Cheshire invests in its people and how much it values and understands the need to have a happy and motivated, high performance workforce.  Some of the many benefits it offers its people include; free fresh fruit, flexible working that encourages a healthy work/life balance and financial support towards becoming more active and developing new skills.  A recent staff survey revealed that 90% of employees felt motivated and empowered. A brilliant result that shows Active Cheshire is in great shape for the future.”

Active Cheshire is a strategic commissioner of sport and physical activity in the Cheshire and Warrington subregion.  A vibrant social enterprise established for more than 26 years, our aim is to get 50,000 more people, more active, more often by 2017.  Advocating the benefits of physical activity on the health and wellbeing of individuals, extends to their own people too .

Over the past three years Active Cheshire, led by Chief Executive and North West Business Woman of the Year 2015, Anne Boyd, pioneered a whole market approach in its commissioning of sport and physical activity, achieving unparalleled success in diversifying the core business, developing a high performing team, and increasing revenue by more than 40%, enabling an additional 27,000 people to get more active.

Active Cheshire continually strives to be best in class, and whilst achieving as a high performance organisation, acknowledges and understands that success is inextricably linked to culture and values.  Their team values are Pride, Passion and Creativity and the culture they embody is one of consultation, trust and empowerment.  Their success could not have been achieved without strong leadership and the hard work, commitment and dedication of the Active Cheshire team.

Mark Greaves Chair of Active Cheshire Board said “people are our greatest asset at Active Cheshire.  We are so proud and grateful to have our endeavours to support and grow them recognised externally.  I am really honoured to lead such a great group of people.”

Anne Boyd Chief Executive of Active Cheshire said “our joint staff and trustee team are thrilled to receive such an accolade.  It reflects the efforts we have made to invest in the health, wellbeing and professional growth of our people.”
