Workforce Development

Active Partnerships play a key role in ensuring that clubs, coaches, volunteers and the professional workforce have the right skills and behaviours to provide inspiring customer led activities, especially for those who are taking their first steps towards sport and physical activity.

Working strategically with national partners including Sport England and UK Coaching and with local partners, Active Partnerships help coordinate and support opportunities to develop a ‘people like me’ diverse workforce which is reflective of local needs and provides inspiring high-quality activities.

Active Partnerships and the Professional Workforce

Sport England launched their Professional Workforce Strategy; Working in an Active Nation in September 2018. The strategy outlines how the sector can work together to support the 400,000 people who work in the sport and physical activity sector in England – and the people they help get active – the best possible support. Supporting the workforce to become more customer focused and striving to get the workforce recognised as professional are two key drivers of this strategy which Active Partnerships and partners will be focusing on locally.

The Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) are central to the professional workforce strategy as they are leading on the development of a clear set of professional standards, career development pathways and new qualification and training approaches. We would therefore encourage colleagues working in the sport and physical activity sector to familiarise themselves with the work of CIMSPA to see if and how being part of the Institute can benefit their own or their colleagues career and personal development.

Active Partnerships are using their knowledge and understanding of the local professional workforce to put into place mechanisms to ensure the workforce is more customer focused and professionally recognised.

Please contact your Active Partnership for more information.
