Active Essex, the Active Partnership for Essex, has launched an online campaign to support people with their physical and mental wellbeing during the coronavirus pandemic.
‘Keep Essex Active’ is inspiring residents to stay active at home and highlights the mental and physical health benefits that an active lifestyle can bring.
To kickstart the campaign, Active Essex has partnered with fitness instructors from across Essex to provide an ongoing schedule of daily, free workouts – all streamed live on a new, dedicated YouTube channel. Since launching on 27 April, the channel has gained almost 300 subscribers, with around 100 viewers taking part in each session.
The ‘Keep Essex Active’ YouTube channel features activity sessions for all ages and abilities, ranging from karate, tai chi and football drills, to yoga, seated aerobics and pilates. Regular personal wellbeing classes are also hosted on the channel to demonstrate the importance of looking after your mental health during this difficult time.
Jason Fergus, Head of Active Essex, says: “As we all adjust to the new normal of social distancing and staying at home, being active has never been more important, for both our mental and physical health.
Keep Essex Active is all about supporting Essex residents to stay active safely during the lockdown period, with regular live and guided activities to suit all ages and available on our new YouTube channel.
Creating this amazing campaign wouldn’t have been possible without the help from our colleagues, residents and delivery partners across the county – it’s a true example of community spirit.”
The campaign was piloted with colleagues at Essex County Council before launching to the public, with more than 50 employees taking part and providing feedback to help shape the final offering.
As well as the ‘Keep Essex Active YouTube channel, Active Essex also has a dedicated ‘Keep Essex Active’ webpage, with over 50 ideas, resources and tips to help Essex residents stay healthy at home.
