OVER 200 PEOPLE SWAP THEIR OFFICE FOR THE BEACH AT THE 2017 CORNWALL BEACH GAMES
Perranporth Beach was turned into a hub of sporting competition as the annual Cornwall Beach Games took place.
Held on Friday 19th May, 17 teams from businesses across Cornwall came together to compete in a series of sporting activities such as Volleyball, Netball, Rounder’s, Beach Clean, Team Building Skills, Tug of War, plus the ‘world famous’ Sandcastle Building Competition.
The event co-organised by the Cornwall Sports Partnership and Health Promotions’ Healthy Workplace Programme gives Cornish Companies the chance to have some active fun outdoors with their fellow colleagues.
Lewis Sanders, Beach Games organiser from the Cornwall Sports Partnership said: ‘‘The event was a brilliant opportunity for businesses and workplaces to take part in physical activity in an informal setting and create a good team building environment. It was great to see so many people enjoying the event and I am sure people will still be talking about the Cornwall Beach Games for weeks to come.”
It was a close race leading into the final event, the Tug of War with the winning team CC All Blacks from the Planning Department, Pencalenick School and their friends pulling their way to victory, making it two years on the trot as winners! In 2nd place was Cornwall Partnership Trust and 3rd was Health Promotion Service.
Alison Johnston from winning team CC All
Blacks said: “This friendly, fun and well organised annual event is something we all look forward to. The Beach Games contained a number of different activities, suitable for all abilities, with an emphasis on teamwork. The highlight for us was winning the tug of war. We would encourage anyone to form a team and come along next year.”
Rachel Faulkner, NHS Workplace Health Coordinator commented: “Another fantastic event! The 2017 Cornwall Beach Games was brilliant, seeing so many companies taking part in a variety of activities with some new additions of team building activities and a beach clean went so well. Feedback from companies has been great with so many people saying they enjoyed themselves and had great fun. The event provides a wide variety of events with lots to do regardless of ability levels. We love working in partnership with the Cornwall Sports Partnership on this event annually and can’t wait until next year!”
