Adventure Access, a not-for-profit water sports and adventure centre, has receive funding from Sport England Tackling Inequality Funding to deliver activities to children with disabilities and families from disadvantaged areas.
Due to covid-19 funding had been pulled for programmes that were due to take place and with social distancing restrictions in place delivery would not be financially viable without placing larger financial burden on participants. Following EOI support from County Durham Sport, funding from the Tackling Inequalities fund has ensured that disabled children and families did not miss out on the opportunity to be active.
Funding has allowed the delivery of a range of activities at both Seaham Harbour Marina and Durham Amateur Rowing Club. Activity included SUP, Kayaking and canoeing. Sensory activities were also included in the disability sessions such as paddling through over hanging trees and dipping hands in the water.
Sessions have been greatly received by participants and plans to sustain activity are in place.
