Young people from across Greater Manchester came together to compete in a variety of sports competitions at Leigh Sports Village, Friday 1 July.
The Greater Manchester Disability Games saw more than 200 young athletes participating in four different sports, football, athletics, boccia and goalball, offering competitive and non-competitive opportunities within each.
Pete Burt, Managing Director of Inspiring healthy lifestyles, who organise the annual event on behalf of Wigan Council, said: “The games provide a wonderful opportunity to celebrate disability sport in the region and we remain committed to providing sports provision for young people with disabilities and increasing the numbers participating in physical activity.”
Councillor Paul Kenny, cabinet member for resources, said: “I’m delighted that Wigan Council is once again supporting this wonderful event. The games provide an amazing fun experience for those taking part and to showcase how sporting talent can triumph over any disability.”
The annual event for secondary school-aged young people is organised and delivered in partnership with Bolton Council and GreaterSport.
