Active Partnerships today welcomed confirmation from the Department for Education that the Primary PE and Sport Premium will continue at the double rate of £320 million for 2019-2020. Schools must use the investment to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of physical education, physical activity and sport aligned to five indicators:

  1. The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity
  2. The profile of PE and sport is raised across the school as a tool for whole-school improvement
  3. Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport
  4. Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils
  5. Increased participation in competitive sport

Lee Mason, CEO for Active Partnerships national team said:

“Given the recent spotlight on the stubborn trend of inactivity amongst children and young people in the Active Lives data, we are delighted that the Primary PE and Sport Premium has been confirmed for 2019-2020. As a sector, we now know more than ever about the attitudes and behaviours of children and young people towards sport and physical activity and as a Network, we look forward to continuing our work with schools to help them understand what additional and sustainable improvements could be made to the quality of PE, physical activity and sport.

Over the last few years, our network of Active Partnerships have achieved some great things to support schools with the Primary PE and Sport Premium such as the introduction of a Supplier Hub in London to help with the coordination of the local offer of sport and physical activity provision for schools as well as a number of Active Partnerships working with afPE and SLUK to deliver the Level 5/6 Professional Qualifications in Primary PE Subject Specialism and Subject Leadership. We are passionate about giving schools the support they need to make informed and needs-led decisions with their investment and we look forward to continuing our role in supporting the Primary PE and Sport Premium investment at both a national and local level in 2019-2020”
