Inspiring women to be active in their local community

She’s Ready, the female volunteering and empowerment programme based in Southend, Essex, is in the final stages of planning for its pilot programme launch in January 2022.

A social movement enabling women to empower other women to be more active, She's Ready connects women with their local community, helps them develop new skills and confidence, helping improve the physical and mental wellbeing of those involved.

The programme started in Southend, and is managed by Active Life for A Healthier You, a CIC based in the town. After seeing and hearing how women felt about volunteering, physical activity and social action, the team at Active Life set about developing this woman led programme. After a successful 3 years, with funding from Sport England via the Volunteering Opportunity fund, Active Life was invited to be part of a cohort of 5 organisations that would look to scale their model across England.

Sport England engaged the services of Spring Impact to assist the process and for the last year Active Life and Spring Impact have been developing She’s Ready to enable the programme to pilot with a small number of organisations to test the model.

5 Active Partnerships (Active Essex, Active Gloucestershire, Get Berkshire Active, RISE and North Yorks) have supported the team at She’s Ready to identify local organisations in their areas to be part of the pilot and access a small pot of funding to help support an activation programme.

The pilot will start in January with evaluation support from SMS (Sports Marketing Surveys), the pilot will be working with 9 organisations to support and develop a strong, empowered female social and physical action programme.

For more information on the pilot, She’s Ready or any other elements please contact Lisa Wright, She’s Ready Project Manager lisa@activelife.uk.com
